Implementing least privilege means giving every account only the permissions it needs to do its job, nothing more. Start by auditing group memberships in Active Directory and reviewing cloud IAM roles in Azure or AWS. Remove accounts from broad administrative groups and replace them with scoped role assignments. Use just-in-time elevation tools so administrators request temporary privileged access when a task requires it. Enforce MFA on every privileged account and monitor sign-in behavior with conditional access policies. Review service accounts quarterly, rotate their credentials, and document why each one exists. Build a quarterly access review process that includes application owners and managers. The goal is reducing blast radius while keeping your team productive.
